Closing an account involves several separate actions. Stopping a subscription addresses future billing. Deleting an account addresses access and stored account information. Removing an app only removes software from a device. Treat these as separate tasks until the provider confirms which actions its process includes.
Keep your closure record
Download a blank text checklist and fill it in privately on your own device. Keep cancellation, account deletion and refund questions as separate tasks.
Your quick checklist
- Find the receipt and identify who bills you.
- Stop renewal and save the confirmation.
- Resolve billing questions before losing account access.
- Request account deletion separately if that is what you want.

Step 01
Name the outcome you want
Start with a short statement: “I want no more renewals,” “I want my account closed,” or “I want to ask for a refund.” You may want all three, but one button may not do all three. A confirmation that says your profile is deleted does not necessarily confirm that an independently billed subscription has ended.
Build a two-column record. In the first column put the action requested; in the second put the provider’s response. Leave a task open until the response addresses that action. This helps when support replies with a generic account message that does not mention billing.
Step 02
Follow the receipt to the billing account
For an Apple-billed subscription, Apple’s instructions direct you to the subscription controls for the Apple Account used for the purchase. If there is no Apple receipt, Apple advises checking the statement to identify the company that bills you. Google Play provides its own subscription controls and says uninstalling an app does not cancel its subscription.
These are examples of why the device and the biller can be different. Buying through a website on a phone does not by itself make the purchase an app-store subscription. Check the receipt instead of assuming that the phone’s subscription list contains every service you use.
Step 03
Save a small closure record
Before deleting an account, keep the receipt, the cancellation confirmation, the date access ends, and the support case number. Store these privately. You do not need to keep a complete browsing history or every old marketing email to preserve evidence of a billing request.
A useful note reads: “Renewal stopped on [date]; access ends on [date]; confirmation saved at [location]; account deletion requested on [date].” Use your own dates and leave unknown fields blank. A screenshot of an unchecked renewal switch is useful context, but an explicit confirmation is easier to interpret later.
Step 04
Check what deletion means for this provider
Read the account-closure screen and the provider’s privacy information before proceeding. Check whether deletion is immediate, whether it can be reversed, and how to contact support after access ends. Do not assume deleting a login removes every receipt or transaction record. Retention practices and obligations vary.
If your request includes a refund, ask that question explicitly and keep the answer. Stopping renewal does not by itself establish refund eligibility. For an unexplained charge after a confirmed cancellation, compare the charge date and billing period with your saved records and contact the biller.
Confirm billing and account closure independently. Keep enough private documentation to explain what you requested, when you requested it and what the provider confirmed.
Common questions
Does uninstalling an app stop payment?
Do not assume so. Google Play explicitly says uninstalling an app does not cancel a subscription. Use the billing provider’s subscription controls.
Should I delete the account before cancelling?
It is usually easier to retain access while you confirm the billing status and save your records. Follow any specific instructions the provider gives for closing both.
